The new BMW X5 M and new BMW X6 M (fuel consumption combined for both models: 11.1 l/100 km (25.5 mpg imp); CO2 emissions combined for both models: 258 g/km) see BMW M GmbH setting the pace once again in the high-performance Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) segment. When the previous generation of the two cars arrived in 2009, it was the first time the high-performance character distilled by BMW M GmbH had been transplanted into an all-wheel-drive BMW X model. Paying respect. That’s what usually has to be done when a successful car model is replaced by the new kid on the block. BMW X6 is certainly a successful model, nearly 240,000 units have been sold globally since its unveil in 2007.
Trying to understand BMW’s logic behind the plan to create their first Sports Activity Coupe is quite easy if you only look at the marketing and finance factors as the main motivators. But if you look at this from a different angle, you might see another story.
The mid-size luxury crossover was released for sale in April 2008. It surprised the industry since it created a new niche. It was revolutionary in a way for an SUV-like vehicle and paved the road not only for another BMW premium crossover, but also for competitors. (more…)
Even six years after its market introduction in spring 2008, the BMW X6 is quite literally unique on the roads: Just in time for the pending model change to the second generation of the Sport Activity Coupé and the market introduction of its little brother X4, increased numbers of pretest vehicle images started appearing online, suggesting that other premium manufacturers would soon follow suit. That’s hardly surprising. The X6, initially often ridiculed and scolded for its “political incorrectness” has developed into a real surprise success and image carrier – not in spite of but specifically because the air of unreasonability that it exudes. German premium carmaker BMW is taking to the stage at the 2014 Paris Motor Show with the latest results of its ongoing model push, revealing even more ways to experience the brand’s hallmark driving pleasure. Europe’s most important car show of the year, which opens to the public from 4 – 19 October 2014, will host the world premieres of two new models: the BMW 2 Series Convertible and the new BMW X6. Also on display in the French capital are the new four-cylinder diesel engines for the BMW 5 Series, an exclusive special edition of the BMW 7 Series luxury Sedan, and innovations from BMW ConnectedDrive. As the first automobile refiner worldwide, LUMMA Design from the Swabian Winterlingen presents the draft design of the brand new BMW X6 of the new F16 series!
Accordingly, LUMMA designers and technicians are already stuck neck-deep in preparations for development in such a way that the first examples of the new LUMMA CLR X 6 R can be presented already at the Geneva Motor Show of 2015. Hidden behind the highly promising type designation is a vehicle conversion of the highest order with a good number of high-end and carefully thought-through elements of individualization.
The most striking modification of the Sport Activity Coupé performed by LUMMA Design however is of course, its spectacular widebody transformation. The LUMMA CLR X 6 R body kit underlying the evidently muscular growth accounts for a growth of about 50 millimeters on each side thanks to the wheel arch enlargements with air boxes on both axles! The first start is versus the M6, which managed to cover ¼ mile in 12.257 seconds with 205 km/h and 1 mile in 28.974 seconds with 293 km/h, while the X6 M needed 11.772 seconds with 190km/h at ¼ mile and 30.200 seconds with 265 km/h at 1 mile.
The second start was made only by the powerful SAC (Sports-Activity-Coupe), and the times were identical 11.734 seconds with 192 km/h at ¼ mile and 30.014 seconds with 268 km/h.
BMW has officially introduced X6 M Design Edition in September. now the exclusive model is ready and it will be produced in only 100 units, which makes it even more exclusive.
BMW X6 M Design Edition boasts nice athletic stance because it sports elements both inside and outside. The SAC is finished in Alpine White, Sapphire Black or Melbourne Red metallic.
