The new BMW X3 manage to pass the tough EURO NCAP crash test with maximum five stars. The second-generation SAV earned its top marks thanks to its comprehensive range of standard safety equipment and effective occupant protection in various types of collision.

2012 X3 has an extremely stable body structure, and the forces exerted on the vehicle in a collision are deflected along precisely defined load paths and absorbed by generous deformation zones.

Among the standard safety equipment, the small SAV comes with front, side and curtain head airbags that protect both the driver and the passengers from injury. The belt tensioners as well as belt force limiters for the front seats and ISOFIX systems in the rear for attaching child seats are also standard. As an option you can order deactivating the front passenger airbag.

The active safety is granted by Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Braking Assistant, Cornering Brake Control and the traction mode DTC (Dynamic Traction Control). There is also a Tyre Defect Indicator that warns the driver in good time of a loss of pressure in any individual wheel.

BMW extends the range of superbly successful Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) – X3. BMW X3 xDrive20i and the BMW X3 xDrive35d will join the line-up in the Autumn of 2011. Both engines boast BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and have a further optimised performance and fuel consumption.

2012 BMW X3 Drive20i is powered by a 2.0 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with twin-scroll turbocharger, High Precision Injection direct petrol injection, Double-Vanos variable camshaft control and VALVETRONIC variable valve control. The result in numbers is 184PS (135 kW) at 4800RPM and 270Nm of torque at just … 1250RPM. Seriously, this 2.0 liter engine pulls way better than enormous V8. Furthermore, it is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which provides ultimate shifting. (more…)

BMW has recently released the new version of the well-known X3. The compact-SUV wasn’t the best car of the manufacturer, but it was very well sold. However, the 2011 X3 is completely different and as we hope, way better than the predecessor.

The engine line-up includes a 2.0 liter diesel in X3 xDrive2.0d with 184HP and 380Nm of torque. Top speed – 210 km/h and 8.5 seconds to 100 km/h. The top version is 3.0 liter twin-turbo charged six-cylinder in X3 xDrive35i with 306HP and 400Nm of torque. Top speed  - 245 km/h and the 0 to 100 km/h takes only 5.7 seconds.

2011 BMW X3 xDrive35i is priced at 51 850 Euro and xDrive20d is priced at 39 100 Euro. (more…)

2011 BMW X3 xDrive 20d SE appears to be one of the best family SUVs on the market. It  is features permanent AWD system – xDrive and mighty 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with 182BHP at 4000RPM and 380Nm (280 lb-ft) at 2750RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Performance – 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 209 km/h (130 mph). The X3 weighs 1790kg and achieves 50.4mpg and 149 g/km of CO2.

The engine range includes a 2.0 liter diesel in X3 xDrive2.0d with 184PS and 380Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. The X3 xDrive35i has a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged inline-six with 306PS and 400Nm – 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 245 km/h.

Fascinating agility on all kinds of terrain is now becoming more economical than ever before. Introducing a new entry-level version of the  BMW X3, the world’s most successful manufacturer of premium all-wheel-drive vehicles is once again setting the standard for efficiency in a Sports Activity Vehicle.

The new BMW X3 xDrive18d is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel delivering an ample 105 kW/143 hp. Average fuel consumption of the new model in the EU test cycle is a mere 6.2 litres/100 kilometres, equal to 45.6 mpg imp. In CO2 emissions, this means a rating of just 165 grams per kilometre. This makes the BMW X3 the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive vehicle in its segment also in this performance class. Along the heels of a successful and ongoing production run of the BMW X5, BMW decided in the early millennium that it wanted to compete with the likes of the Land Rover Freelander and other small SUVs just as the X5 had previously done so well in its respective classes. Thus the X3 (internally known as E83), was born.

What thus emerged was a concept unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in 2003. Dubbed the xActivity, BMW previewed to the public for the first time what a smaller SAV based on a 3 Series platform would look like. The concept had no windows, for the most part no roof, and a sleek futuristic interior. Only the basic shape of the car would emerge as the BMW X3.

Just as BMW used many parts from the E39 5 Series parts bin in the making of the X5, the same occurred in the X3′s development, whereby BMW engineers reused 3 Series parts. (more…)
