One example of the work of BBM technicians is the project vehicle E91 330d shown here. It was namely pushed to a performance of 274 horse power and a maximum torque of good 859 Newton meters (standard series is 231 horse power / 520 Nm) using a BBM chip tuning system that was developed on the basis of the company’s own Dynojet 224xLC performance test platform. In addition to software optimisation, a decisive share of the power boost can also be attributed to the complete Supersprint exhaust system as from the Turbo version and the Pipercross air filter. The new BMW X5 raises efficiency to another new level in the world of the luxurious Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). BMW is using the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) to present the logical next step towards landmark efficiency in the SAV segment. The BMW Concept X5 eDrive combines the brand of driving pleasure for which the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system is renowned and a luxurious ambience within the variable-use interior with a plug-in hybrid drive concept. Its innovative BMW eDrive technology guarantees the hallmark sporting ability of a BMW, while at the same time opening the door to speeds of up to 120 km/h (75 mph), a maximum range of 30 kilometres (19 miles) on electric power alone and average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 3.8 litres per 100 kilometres (74.3 mpg imp). BMW M135i is a real alternative to the highly prized M of the 1 series because the difference between both power racers is close to a mere 20 horse power in maximum performance. The in-line six cylinder with TwinPower Turbo and direct injection thus develops a lofty 320 horse power and a maximum torque of 450 Nm.
