Plant Oxford today sees a production first as the new MINI 5-door Hatch comes off the production line.
The new 5-door is a first for MINI production at the Oxford plant and marks another phase in the roll-out of a £750 million investment programme across BMW Group UK’s production facilities from 2011 to 2015.
The car comes hot on the heels of the new MINI Hatch, which was launched in November. The new 5-door, which will go on sale in the autumn, is an exciting addition to the family of MINIs made in Oxford and opens up a whole new market segment. (more…)
The Internet Auto Award from the online portal AutoScout24, Europe’s most significant public choice award in the automotive sector, goes to the BMW i8. The innovative sportscar recieved the most votes in the electric vehicle category, which also included plug-in hybrid models. In the same class, third place went to the BMW i3, the first high-volume all-electric vehicle from BMW featuring a passenger compartment made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) and a comprehensive range of innovative driver assistant systems and mobility services. Editors of the AutoScout24 magazine bestowed the Editorial Award in the category technology on the BMW Laserlight, which was featured on a series production vehicle for the first time with the delivery of a BMW i8 on 5 June 2014. BMW Team RLL disappointed at Six Hours of the Glen – Edwards and Müller finish sixth, Auberlen and Priaulx tenth
The beginning of BMW Team RLL’s Six Hour of the Glen story was better than the ending, as the team was unable to capitalise on its excellent starting positions (first and third) at Watkins Glen International Raceway (US). The day of struggle ultimately ended with sixth and tenth place finishes in the GTLM class of the United SportsCar Championship. (more…)

Leading premium brand BMW will use the upcoming BVRLA Fleet Technology Congress to showcase its innovative i8 sports car.
Come 1 July 2014, all eyes will be on the model, as it’s one of the first plug-in hybrid sports cars to go on sale in the UK. It uses a host of innovative technologies, including a carbon fibre and aluminium construction and safety features such as autonomous emergency braking and surround view cameras. (more…)

ALPINA is following the launch of the remarkable D3 Bi-Turbo, the world’s fastest diesel production car, with two new petrol models. The new B4 Bi-Turbo is available as a coupe or a convertible, together offering a unique combination of comfort, refinement and very high performance.
