Changeover at MINI Plant Oxford: while worldwide demand for the new MINI 3 door and the new MINI 5 door launched a few months ago increases continuously, production of two model variants from the preceding generation of the original in the premium small car segment is about to come to an end. The two individual two-seater athletes MINI Coupé and MINI Roadster will finish their career together and as planned. In taking this step, the British premium car manufacturer continues the change of generation in its model program and in terms of vehicle production at the Oxford plant. A strong partner for the new season: when BMW Motorsport races in the DTM, the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) and the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE) in 2015, it will be joined by Shell as its new Premium Technology Partner.
From 2015, Shell is also the only “recommended supplier of genuine BMW engine oil” and “BMW’s only recommended oil supplier for aftermarket engine oils”. This exclusive cooperation is now being extended to the racetrack, where the teams will race on Shell Helix Ultra and Pennzoil Platinum engine oils. All these engine oils are made from natural gas which enables them to deliver enhanced engine protection and performance for both BMW road and race cars. (more…)
Despite BMW finishing production of the BMW M3 E9X with its legendary 4.0l V8 high-revving engine in 2013, the demand for performance increases has been unabated. In order to accommodate, G-POWER has technically upgraded its range of supercharger systems. By doing so, the new systems with the increased performance of +20 hp have been labeled as the “TU” version (technical update) compared to previous versions. BMW M Division’s high-performance coupé has been designed to ensure maximum driving dynamics and with its use on the racetracks of this world in mind. The six-cylinder inline engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, a high-rev concept and distinct racing genes contributes significantly to the high-performance character of the overall concept. Already the production version of the sporting heart delivers a top performance of 431 hp (317 kW) and provides a maximum torque of 550 Nm (combined fuel consumption of 8.8-8.3 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions of 204-194 g/km) over a broadly usable range of revolution speeds. BMW’s new figurehead for the GT racing scene has been given its first run: last Saturday, the test track on the premises of the BMW factory in Dingolfing (DE) provided the stage for the roll-out of the BMW M6 GT3, with which BMW teams will compete in national and international series, as well as at iconic endurance races, from 2016 onwards. The car left the garage for the first time at precisely 14:00 with Jörg Müller (DE) at the wheel. This gave the BMW works driver the honour of creating the next milestone in the development of the BMW M6 GT3. (more…)
